10 Questions Gay People Get Asked Everyday

It’s amazing how people’s curiosity can bring out the types of questions gay people get asked daily. I used to find some of these questions annoying, but now, I get a kick out of it whenever someone asks me any of these questions. Here are some of my answers to the questions below:

  1. Who’s the man/woman in the relationship? If we have a man and a woman in a relationship, we might as well be straight. In a gay relationship, we are equal. Men are born with penises, and women are born with vaginas. Last time I checked, we’re male-male/female-female in the relationship. We’re not amoebas where we can be anything.
  2. How did you find out that you’re gay? We just knew. We never decided to wake up one morning and say, “Oh, I shall be gay today for the rest of my life and subject myself to society’s ridicule and torture”. We are not masochists.
  3. How do you know if you’ve never been with a guy/girl before? If you are straight, how would you know you’re not gay if you’ve never been with the same sex before?
  4. Were you abused when you were younger and that turned you gay? Being abused does not make you gay. If that is true, the whole world would be gay. Oppressed countries, tortured war prisoners, Cuba, Venezuela, China, Russia, North Korea and the likes would be gay. I don’t think that’s how it works.
  5. Why don’t you try dating a guy/girl? We don’t waste our time on dating people we are not attracted to. Plus, that is not fair to the other person to waste their time when they could be doing something more productive.
  6. Why don’t you try dressing more girly/guyish? Wearing clothes does not make a person gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered. If I wear a pair of boxer briefs, does that make me gay? So if that is true, women who have short hair and wear pants are gay, and men who have long hair and use man-purses are gay.
  7. Have you tried praying it off? You mean “pray the gay away”? If that is true, there won’t be any gay people in the world right now with the amount of prayers the world is getting, especially since recently, they announced that the end of the world is near and the new generation pretty much is going to hell. But no, you cannot pray the gay away. We’re here to stay!
  8. How will you have children and start a family? We have options: adoption and artificial insemination to name a few.
  9. How will you get married? There are places around the world that conduct and recognize same-sex marriages, and more territories/countries are legalizing it. (More options for us gay folk yay!)
  10. How do you, you know, do that…thing? If you mean making love with each other, that’s not a problem. We make it happen.
